I stopped and visited my grandparents (who live in Albuquerque) and in between eating really delicious New Mexican food, we spent a morning at the Albuquerque zoo, which I haven’t been to since I was 7 or 8. A lot of it is under construction, so we didn’t get to see as much as we might have, but I still had a really good time.

The first thing we saw was a cute little koi pond, where some hungry mouths were clearly expecting to be fed.

Then we saw a seal and sea lion exhibit! I wanted to come back for the feeding but apparently my grandparents were too old for that nonsense.

The rhino exhibit. I had no ideas rhinos could curl up their tails so cutely! And look – a 50 gallon drum for them to play with.

Hippos – I really liked how this complements the SA Zoo’s hippo exhibitSA Zoo’s hippo exhibit (scroll down a bit), which shows the hippos from under the water. Here, we could see them popping above the water. (There’s actually 3 hippos here!)

An adorable Tasmanian devil! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before, so I was entranced by this one.

And finally, a – and I could be wrong here – white tree kangaroo. It was definitely sleepytime for her. There was a big sign on the exhibit asking visitors to stay quiet.
