Griffith Observatory and Santa Monica Pier

After the La Brea Tar Pits, we headed over to the Griffith Observatory (I splurged for a car for the day – highly recommended!)

The iconic Hollywood sign! I was expecting a bright sunshine-y LA day, but it was actually pretty smoggy and overcast the whole day.

But it was still lovely! This is the view from the roof of the Griffith Observatory. It’s a happening place!

We drove down to Santa Monica beach.  Neither of us had our swimsuit (I was traveling too much to unpack!) but we took our shoes off and walked through the surf.

There was a fantastic old-school arcade! Afton played DDR and I went for skee ball.

Then we headed out to the fairgrounds and took a ride on the Ferris wheel.

This is the beach from the Ferris wheel! You can’t see it from here, but the beach has a great gym set-up.

And finally, the one and only Afton, enjoying our Ferris wheel ride.  I love having adventures with her!

P.S. Afton, come visit me in New Zealand!
