Moeraki Boulders

The last stop my class made on our field trip was the Moeraki boulders, which are these awesome spherical boulders formed by the coastal environment.  They were absolutely gorgeous.

We came in at the same time as the high tide and some weather.  Lots of people were trying to climb on the boulders without getting their feet wet. (I was trying too, but I failed.)

This is a boulder up close – you can clearly see how the sea is eroding it!

In the background here, you can see the fog settling in the hills.

And the tide crashing over the boulders! MaybeThe Little Mermaid” was actually set in New Zealand…

Finally, a bird soaring over the ocean right before we left for the day.  All in all, it was a fantastic day trip!
